Ruth Elder Womack also known as Ruth Elder [1903 1977] was a pioneering American aviatrix who was known as''Miss America of Aviation''. During the 1920's, she was barnstorming and competing in local air races.
In 1927, she attempted along with pilot George Haldeman to become the 1st woman to fly non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Paris which is the same flight Charles Lindbergh completed just a few months before. Her daring feat, through unsuccessful thrust her into the national spotlight and brought her over 250.000 dollars from personal appearances and a brief movie career in silent films.
